by fashion shop on Jun.30, 2010, under christian louboutin, fashion

You could walk through Christian Louboutin’s luxurious Mount Street store without even realising it was there, but sure enough, cleverly hidden by a series of one way mirrors, is a secret shopping pod. A glamorous chaise longue and a wall featuring some of the famous shoe designer’s earlier work help create the sumptuous setting for a unique shopping experience, where customers can browse the entire collection at leisure, with the help of a private sales assistant.

Brides can make appointments with their maid of honour at Louboutin’s Library, where they will be offered Champagne and treats, whilst they choose the perfect shoes for their special day. Special orders are also possible, as brides are given the opportunity to browse the collection of Louboutin’s most popular styles and fabrics to create their own unique version of the famous scarlet-soled shoes.

Wedding Shoes – Trends For 2010

by fashion shop on Jun.27, 2010, under fashion

Brides seem to pay all the attention to their wedding dress and none on the feet that carry them down the aisle. If you’re going to spend thousands of dollars on a dress that you’ll never wear again, why leave out the wedding shoes from your shopping list?

You may say that wedding shoes have the unfortunate fate of being hidden beneath the gown. But then, the purpose of a nice pair of shoes is much more than making them visible (although the enterprising bride will definitely find ways to flaunt her shoes from underneath the gown) for everyone – they can add to the whole ensenble, make you (and your feet) feel awesome, and just add the ‘finishing’ touch to your dress.

Just as the fashion for dresses keeps changing every season, wedding shoes also go through the fashion change cycle. You should always go for shoes that complement the style of the dress. If your dress is straight from 2009 spring, then don’t buy shoes that would’ve looked good in 2004.

The current trend in 2010 is for wedding gowns that just look a bit retro and ‘dated’ (in a good way). Therefore, get shoes that complement this look and feel like they were just a few decades old. This ‘yesteryears’ look is great on the aisle and will definitely make a few heads turn.

Keeping in line with this retro look, the shoes in 2010 are decidedly more feminine than their counterparts from 2009 and earlier. Get shoes with more delicate accents, feminine traces, etc.

Shoes with a variety of embellishments and adornments are all the rage this year. Designers are stopping short of nothing when it comes to shoes, adding everything from artificial stones to lace on them. Adornments such as hearts, butteflies, etc. are also much in vogue. Feathers are another adornment this season that will definitely set you apart and make all the girls in the ceremony jealous.

Don’t be one of those brides who spends thousands of dollars on her dress but is miserly about her shoes. They may not be seen as much as the gown, but they are a part of the whole ensemble and your dress would be definitely robbed of its charm without a nice pair of shoes complementing it.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue

by fashion shop on Jun.08, 2010, under Manolo Blahnik, fashion, fashionable sale

This is a good luck saying which dates back to the Victorian era and many brides will try and ensure that they have something of each in their wedding outfit.

Something Old is meant to represent the link with the bride’s own family and the past particularly mother or grandmother or even most distant relations. Something old is symbolic of continuity. To symbolise this link brides may choose to wear a piece of antique family jewellery which belonged to the relative. Alternatatively they may select something from the mother’s or grandmother’s wedding gown. Other things that may be chosen include a handkerchief, a scarf or a piece of lace.

Something New represents good luck and success and the brides hopes for a bright future in her new married life. The wedding gown is often chosen as the new item but it could be anything that is purchased new for the wedding such as the wedding flowers or the wedding rings. Wearing a new item on your wedding day conveys the message that you and your husband are creating a new union that will endure forever.

Something Borrowed is to represent to the bride that friends and family will be there for her on the special day and in the future when help is needed. “Borrowing” is especially important, since it has to come from a happily married woman, thereby lending the bride some of her own marital happiness to carry into the new marriage. Anything can be borrowed but it must be returned afterwards. Another way to incorporate a borrowed item into your wedding day attire is to borrow a friend’s piece of jewellery. If you have a close friend who has worn the same necklace for as long as you have known her, you might consider borrowing this particular necklace for your wedding day as a reminder of your friendship. Perhaps she wore the necklace on her own wedding day.

Something Blue in ancient times is the symbol of faithfulness, purity and loyalty. Often a blue item is the garter and in olden times the couple wore blue bands on the border of their wedding attire to denote, love, modesty and fidelity. Another way to wear something blue is to include a blue flower in your headdress or theme your wedding flowers in blue.

Brides have been honoring the tradition of wearing an old, a new, a borrowed and a blue item during their wedding for centuries. Although wearing these items is supposed to symbolise good luck for the bride, they are also just a fun tradition that gives the bride an opportunity to express her admiration for a few special people in her life on her special day.

Office Styles for Women

by fashion shop on Jun.01, 2010, under fashion

Business casual for women can be difficult to get right. It’s much easier for men who always wear some variation of full suit with tie, suit without tie, slacks and shirt without a jacket, etc. Business casual can be tricky for women to dress for without looking either too sexy or too buttoned-up.

But in the office, you want to appear to be the perfect employee and dressing the part can help make you fit the part, too. First, you want to make sure that you remain modest. No one will appreciate too much skin in the office environment.  Pick longer skirts and pants and higher necklines. Knee-length skirts and capris can also work, as long as you still keep your top covered up. A classic pencil skirt is always a good bet for business casual, as long as it comes down to your knees.

Next, try to keep your look fairly neutral. Not to say that you can’t throw in pops of color and prints, but overall keep the look toned down. Most of your outfit should be a neutral color, like black, navy or brown. Keep things simple and elegant; don’t overwhelm your office look with too many bold fashion trends.

Although these office fashions dos seem simple enough, I’ve seen a ridiculous amount of office fashion don’ts. Never, ever have exposed underwear lines when you go to work. For example, if your office does allow you to wear jeans to work, make sure that whatever top you wear covers all of your skin above the top of your jeans and never show your underwear.

Also, always avoid things that are too short and uncovered. If you wouldn’t wear an outfit to have dinner with your parents, then you should definitely not wear that outfit to work. Don’t wear mini-skirts, very short shorts, strapless tube tops, or skirts with high, risqué slits. Never wear something that is too short, too tight, see-through, or exposes any cleavage.

Similarly, make sure you don’t look like a slob at work. If you want people to respect you and believe you are a good employee, you need to show that you care about how you present yourself. Don’t wear anything that’s distressed (jeans, tops, jackets, just to name a few). Also don’t wear athletic gear, like running shorts, or lounge wear, like sweatpants and flip-flops. None of these articles of clothing give off a professional vibe.
